As an aunt to a nephew with a behavioural disorder and two nieces with down syndrome, I’ve always been intrigued and wondering about what makes them unique because no one in my extended family has ever had a disability associated with these genetic markers. Additionally, I work with kids who have autism, behavioural issues, and aberrant neurodevelopmental growth, which leads me to ask what is distinctive about our environment that is causing severe conditions in newborn infants. I was interested in learning more about the connection between child development and the effects of climate change. This study has provided me with many answers to questions I had about how children develop and how environmental changes may have contributed to these outcomes.
